Abstract
The purpose of this article is to evaluate the clinical results of 5th metatarsal stress fracture treated with hybrid technique(inlay bone graft and compression screw fixation) especially in soccer players and to compare with each isolated technique. Eight soccer players operated from March 1999 to November 1999 were evaluated retrospectively. They are all males and the average age of the players are 17.8 years old(range 16¢¦23 years old). There were 3 professional and 5 amateur players. There were 6 excellent, 2 fair result as a whole. Among the 2 refracture cases who rated as fair, one player could achieve final union without operation, on the contrary, another player got the reoperation. There were no screw breakage and other complications. This hybrid technique for 5th metatarsal stress fracture in soccer players seems to be valuable methods, but need careful rehabilitation technique and decision of time of return to full sports activit.
